The Importance of Evening Routine

Aristotle once said: “We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit”. That is the quote that should remind us the importance of creating our own routine and making it a healthy habit.Young and ambitious men and women put a lot of efforts in their careers, thus they work very hard every day trying to achieve the best possible results.

After a long and sometimes exhausting day at work we come back home to our usual guilty pleasure routine: for some of us that is cracking open a bottle of wine and watching our favourite TV show, for others is turning on all the social media channels and stalking somebody else’s “perfect” life and for those who are pushing themselves too hard - is turning on a laptop and getting back to business with a frozen dinner.

But don’t you think that these decisions are step-by-step forming your evening routine without you even noticing it?

High achievers: famous business people, CEO’s, entrepreneurs, politicians and other inspiring people are always without any excuse creating their strict evening routine in order to achieve best possible results and become leaders of their field.

Still don’t have your evening routine checklist or can’t find the right time to plan your evening routine? Don’t worry – here are some useful and practical ideas that you can adjust in your everyday life.

1. Avoid randomness

It is said that the brain is firing up dopamine when you have a lot of random things that run in your mind - in turn causing you the struggle to fall asleep and low productivity level the next day. The worst you can do after work is turning on your TV, social media channels and start your marathon of scrolling and pushing a remote control buttons. Too much useless information!

2. Decide when the workday ends

It’s easy to lose track of time and stay too late. Establish a cut off time for work-related emails and phone calls after work hours. If you don’t set boundaries, it’s hard to enjoy life and give time for yourself or your family.

3. Do one thing you love

Your brain relaxes when you do something that is delightful. The brain is stimulated when you are happy which improves your cognitive alertness and productivity. Read a book, write, paint, cook – whatever makes you happy and liberates your creativity!

4. Plan out the next day

Before going to bed every night, make a quick list of the things that you have to deal with the next day. Set up priorities to make sure they will get done right away.

5. The different kind of list

Focus on the positive impact you left on the day. What have you done that you are proud of? What great things you have achieved this day?This simple routine can flip your mind-set into a more positive and fulfilled one.

6. Practice gratitude
